Author Information

Jim's mom became the first and founding president of the Southern California Head Injury Foundation, Inc. (SCHIF) in 1982. Now part of a national effort -- The Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA). During the time of her son's recovery, thousands of hopeful families and professionals joined together in a massive grassroots effort back in the early 1980's to open up a huge corridor of assistance. Pioneering legislation, aftercare, prevention, and ongoing research to aid the underserved head injured population. The new foundation immediately backed unheard of laws for mandatory seat belts, air bags, child restraint seats, bicycle and motorcycle helmets. New gun safety laws were instituted. Resource information was gathered into one central clearinghouse. Available today. Such a successful start to a treasured opportunity where none had ever existed. This was Patricia Decker's motivation to finally share the full story of their rocky journey in the life of Sober Jim.
