Reviews

Purrfectly enchanting and delightfully fun... Clark's latest picture book is a delightful adventure where curiosity, connection, and an elusive cat lead two siblings on an exhilarating journey. When Jake and Axel discover a mysterious black cat with lime-green eyes, they name him Magic and try to help him find his home. As Magic's owners remain elusive, the boys grow attached to his playful, wandering spirit and his knack for exploring unexpected napping spots around their farm. Hoping to make him stay, they build Magic a bed-but the cat keeps them guessing. Will Magic ever settle, or will his free spirit prevail? The narrative flows as effortlessly as Magic's wandering ways, capturing childhood's innocence and the thrill of discovery. Clark paints summer's warmth through playful moments and close-knit family bonds, infusing the story with curiosity and compassion. Magic's quirks and movements spring to life, his free spirit challenging the boys to love without possession. The story strikes a perfect balance between emotional depth and lighthearted charm, especially in the boys' relationship with their mother. The ending feels complete, tying the journey together with a sense of growth and new horizons. Blueberry Illustrations' vivid artwork complements the narrative beautifully, bringing Magic's playful spirit and the farm's charm to life. Vibrant, detailed depictions of summer scenes-water balloon fights, the boys crafting Magic's bed, and the cat lounging in unexpected spots-enhance the warm, nostalgic tone of the story. The catchy prose and relatable themes make this book a delightful read for both young readers and those who never outgrow a good story. A gentle reminder of the beauty in small gestures and the profound connections we can form with animals, this is a must-have for school and public library shelves. The Prairies Book Review. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
