So the Light Stays

Overview

So the Light Stays explores the emotions and experiences that make life unique and meaningful. These poems express the range of feelings and moments we experience as we grow into womanhood, from the highs of self-love, empowerment, and growth, to the lows of fractured family bonds, chronic pain, loss, and grief. This collection explores the duality of a life well-lived versus the loss and grief that we naturally experience along the way.

Reviews

Writing personal poetry requires, first, a personality and, second, a personality that deepens into character. In too much of the lyric poetry being produced these days, the first is ill-defined, and the second is entirely absent. Danelle Blinka's poems reveal both, a mind that is lively with the kinds of discovery that bring delight: Describing a weed, she says, ""Alone you stand / Bare / To the world, / Lovely, with your / Roots of stone."" A poet of lesser character might have concluded with something more expected and thus less memorable. Small surprises like this are the characteristics of a real poet, and Danielle Blinka is one. -R.S. Gwynn, author of Dogwatch, The Drive-In, The Narcissiad, and No Word of Farewell: Selected Poems ""Danielle's work is heartfelt and intimate. She reveals raw feelings in an appealing lyrical style. She digs deep to describe moments of life that ring true for all of us while reflecting her personal reactions to events."" -Stephen Schwei, Poet, Bluebonnet Whispers
