OverviewHwatu (화투 花鬪) is a traditional Korean card game that was reinterpreted in a Korean style after being introduced to Korea through Japan's Hanafuda (花札) and has now become a part of playing culture in Korean daily life. In this book, visual artist and author Estelle SO has reinterpreted Hwatu by creating 48 unique Hwatu card images in her own distinctive style. The book also provides easy-to-understand basic information about Hwatu in Korea, including rules and gameplay instructions for the fundamental Hwatu games, 'Minhwatu' and 'Gostop.' Additionally, it introduces methods for fortune-telling using Hwatu cards. The author based her Hwatu designs on Korean traditions and adjusted the orientation of the cards to align with their principles. Additionally, she made modifications to enhance card distinguishability by addressing areas where the cards were not clearly marked.
