OverviewA true story of a U.S. Army man with courage and grit - as told by his granddaughter. Brigadier General Frederic B. Butler was born October 5, 1896, in San Francisco, California. He graduated from West Point and then spent three years in China and outer Mongolia before working at the Hoover White House. In WWII, he fought Rommel-led troops in North Africa and across the deserts of Tunisia before marching across Europe while battling up the mountainous spine of the Italian boot in Anzio and Cassino. In southern France, he heroically commanded Task Force Butler to Montelimar, liberating dozens of French towns and villages while pursuing retreating Germans.
