Overview

Throwing, rolling and playing games in the snow has always been on Adanah's wishlist of things to do before she turns ten. It just never snows where she lives! So when she gets whizzed away for her first snow-holiday, she is truly thrilled! But a storm soon strikes, and her aeroplane's wings ""shivered with an unusual frenzy, as if it had caught a cold"". Yet the dreadful weather hints on more danger ahead! When Adanah accidentally stumbles on Khindamah - The Land of Broken Toys, her mind is bombarded with a billion questions about the world she loves, and she wishes she had stayed back at home. Has her holiday been marred by Khindamah forever? Find out what happens in this adventure of cultural experiences. Reading age 9-12 (Middle Grade) Due to some reference of war, conflict and refuge, parental guidance and follow-up conversations around what children hear on the topic (via news channels either at school or at home) are advised. The essence of this book is that children know more than they are openly willing to talk about. Yet it is in talking that we truly become free - The Author

Due to some reference of war, conflict and refuge, parental guidance and follow-up conversations around what children hear on the topic (via news channels either at school or at home) are advised. The essence of this book is that children know more than they are openly willing to talk about. I believe that in talking, our children truly become free - The Author Reviewed by Amazon Customer Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 February 2022 This story reminds me of the classic styles that we often don't get to read in books these days. A beautiful journey of Adanah a young girl who gets to visit the land of snow, her adventure from beginning to end is meaningful, entertaining and such a great read for kids who want to learn about other cultures, their lives and understand the bigger picture in a sensitive way. Bravo to the author for bringing us Snowy Joy. ""SNOWY JOY is a fun book for children which every parent will enjoy reading with their child. As it takes you on an adventurous plane journey from Lagos with grandma to a Magical Christmas in St Albans."" Carrol May Nelson (Children's Author) ""Another cleverly and well written book! A must read for young readers."" Eve Adebayo (Educationist & Author) Dan (Amazon Customer) ""I really liked this book especially when Adanah got to meet her aunts baby. I would definitely read this book again!"" By Rosa 9years A coming together of family across the globe in a world of diversity and conflict, especially poignant at Christmas. A lovely book for children with an underlying message of hope and humanity. Very clever concept. My daughter loved it! Amazon Customer My 5 year old son read this book with his Dad as a bedtime story over a few days and he really enjoyed it. He really enjoyed the superheroes bit and identified with the main character's enthusiasm to travel to the ""snowy land"" as he describes it. He also enjoyed the part where her uncle picked her up. Dad also enjoyed the book, because he identified with the characters in the book. It's nice to read stories where one can identify with the characters. Overall it was a good read. Although it is a chapter book, I think it can be read with readers as young as 6 depending on the maturity level of the child. The book opens up opportunities to discuss world issues and politics on a small scale through the story plot.
