The various illustrators did a nice job evoking the cultures from which the stories came.-- San Francisco Book Review STARRED REVIEW! A falcon swoops down and steals a ruby slipper from the banks of the Nile; a beautiful young girl lies in a coffin hanging from a tree. Sound familiar? Probably not, and, that's the fun of these volumes, each presenting multicultural variations of stories we all know. . . .Illustrations capture beautifully the particular cultural ambience of each tale. . . .My second grade team has already deemed these books an indispensable addition for a curriculum that asks students to study folktale variations. Highly Recommended.-- School Library Connection Author InformationJessica Gunderson grew up in the small town of Washburn, North Dakota.
