SNAKES AROUND MY HEART

Overview

Some people are born knowing exactly what they want to do. I grew up collecting dreams like souvenirs. Being a princess? Nice, but why when you can be a queen? Being an Olympic champion? I was in athletics for seven years, but I guess I was too short and too pretty for it anyway. Maybe one day I will marry an Olympic champion instead. Being a teacher? I guess that’s why I am studying Pedagogy at university, even though I am still a kid. Being a writer? Looks like I made it, since you’re reading this! Some people have a five-year plan. Been there, done that. Now I prefer plot twists. And this is a big one. Author Information

Born in the Czech Republic in 2002, Eliška Hozáková, who is now about to graduate from Charles University in Prague with a degree in Pedagogy, began writing poetry in both Czech and English in high school as a way of expressing her inner world. A lover of sport, travel and art, she says of herself, ‘I have the heart of an athlete and the soul of an artist’. Her poems – modern, refreshing, funny and sassy – are born from personal experiences, from observing the world and human relationships, from the need to express her dreams, emotions and aspirations. This first collection is especially dedicated to women, encouraging them to speak out without fear, to love themselves and to understand their value. It is a hymn to love, friendship, freedom and courage. An invitation not to forget that: “Woman is the most beautiful human”.
