OverviewSmoking is the acute or chronic physiological and psychological intoxication caused by tobacco abuse. By extension, the term also refers to tobacco consumption in general. One of the major and specific problems of active or passive smoking by women is its impact on their reproductive life. It lengthens the time it takes to conceive, reduces the chances of success of all medically assisted reproduction techniques, increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion, low birth weight, sudden infant death syndrome, infectious respiratory and ear, nose and throat diseases, and has a detrimental effect on the child's overall development.In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), men consume more tobacco than women.
