OverviewPlastics are essential in modern life but cause severe environmental pollution due to their non-biodegradable nature. This book explores an eco-friendly solution through the development of bio-nanocomposite films that combine strength, durability, and biodegradability. Using a green synthesis approach, metal and metal oxide nanoparticles such as copper, silver, and zinc oxide were prepared from Psidium guajava (guava) leaf extract - a natural and renewable source - and blended with biodegradable polymers like carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and pectin. These films showed enhanced mechanical, thermal, barrier, and antimicrobial properties, making them suitable for food packaging and other sustainable applications. The book, structured in six chapters, discusses plastic pollution, experimental methods, nanoparticle synthesis, film development, and key findings. It concludes that bio-nanocomposite films are effective and environmentally responsible alternatives to petroleum-based plastics.
