Overview

Small Towns and Mountain Views offers a voice and perspectives in prose and poetry from Mizoram in Northeast India. While the writing is largely subjective and personal, nuances of cultural life and society are deeply ingrained, as are slices of Mizo history in the reminiscences and evocations of childhood strongly intertwined with trauma and displacement. Also interspersed with these are residues from the writer's 40 year career teaching English at college.

Author Information

Zualteii Poonte is a retired English college teacher in Aizawl, Mizoram. She has run, albeit somewhat sporadically, a blog on Mizo writing in English (https: //www.mizowritinginenglish.com) since 2007 and is deeply interested in promoting young Mizo writers in English. Although this is her first book publication, she has had poems, prose pieces and translations published in various journals and anthologies in India and abroad, including the 2023 Zubaan publication The Keepers of Knowledge: Writings from Mizoram. She dabbles inexpertly in photography, and enjoys a low-key life with her two younger sisters and assorted cats and dogs.
