Reviews

“A must-have for people who already walk and for those who want to walk more, for everyone who’s environmentally conscious and wants to tread more lightly, for map fans, history buffs and geographers, and for people curious about what the future could and should look like.”  Mary-Ann Ochota, broadcaster and author “The central idea is really large-scale infrastructural: to create a network of ‘slow ways’ between towns, villages and cities – tested, timed, shareable and usable – that can offer significant, practical and frequent sustainable alternatives to vehicle transport.” Robert Macfarlane, writer on landscape and people “Every week on Ramblings I meet people who understand deeply the value of walking. Slow Ways is making it possible for more people to walk further and for more purposes, which is a great thing for the whole country and a legacy for future generations.”  Clare Balding, presenter of the BBC’s Ramblings “A brilliant way to squeeze nature, wildness and adventure around the busy margins of modern life. For everyone, everywhere.”  Alastair Humphreys, author and adventurer

Author Information

Slow Ways CIC is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company. We exist to create a national walking and wheeling network for the whole of Great Britain. Starting with towns, cities and national landscapes, we have plans to connect every village and neighbourhood across Britain and Ireland. That's a big job, so thankfully thousands of people are involved in the initiative, all walking, wheeling, checking and reviewing routes so that more people can feel confident to follow in their footsteps. So far over 9,000 routes stretching for 140,000km (87,000 miles) have been added to the Slow Ways network. We are delighted that you are exploring this atlas. Consider it an invitation to join in. Urban Good CIC is dedicated to making cities and towns better places to live, so connecting them with a novel network of routes piqued our curiosity. We are proud to have been part of the Slow Ways journey from the start. We write, design and publish - and we have a deep love for print. Founded by Charlie Peel in 2016, our maps help residents and visitors explore and understand more about their place in the world. www.urbangood.org
