Overview

An Acting for Camera book for actors looking to break into the business, as well as for those who want to transition from onstage acting to film/tv work. This down-to-earth text combines all the best aspects of actor training books: narrative real-life experiences, workbook exercises with journalling, plus on-camera exercises to hone live & self-taped audition techniques. Learn Mahoney's method for doing ""homework"" and creating character ""notebooks"" that give a strong foundation to on-camera work. Included are 45 practice scenes with guidelines on how to break down the scene, choose eye lines, find the emotional shift, and make your audition stand out amid hundreds of self-tapes. Mahoney started onstage as a child, where she was bitten by the acting bug. She went on to receive her B.A. in Theatre Arts from Greensboro College, and her M.F.A. in Acting from the University of Connecticut. Her undergraduate work focused on Western acting techniques, including Stanislavski & Meisner. Her graduate work was primarily focused on The Suzuki Method of Actor Training, an extreme physical and vocal training technique created by Japanese Theatre Master, Tadashi Suzuki. Mahoney has been seen Off-Broadway and in regional theatres around the country including, Long Wharf Theatre, The Berkshire Theatre Festival, and Southern Rep. Known as a versatile actor, Ann is best remembered for her role as ""Olivia"" on three seasons of The Walking Dead. Selected TV credits include the iconic Gladys Presley in Sun Records, and Guest Starring roles on The Sundance Channel's Rectify, the CW's Hart of Dixie, and The Good Cop for Netflix. Her Film appearances include Bad Moms, Logan Lucky, 99 Homes, and Same Kind of Different as Me, among others. The book draws on Mahoney's 25 years experience both onstage and on camera, as well as 10 years of teaching Acting for Camera on the university level. Mahoney specializes in ""telling it like it is,"" and giving theatre actors the skills and inspiration to become compelling on-camera actors.
