I am Shaylin Rose Bullet, a small, copper-haired oddball at Venice Beach Park. I live and breathe skateboarding on the new concrete ramps along our ocean. Even when I land a pretty awesome jump, the boys still yell for me to ""go to the beginner's ramp."" Life at school isn't any easier. The girls who could be my friends make sure I know I don't fit their idea of a fashion-plate. I'm too wild, too sporty, too ... me. Now my first skateboarding official contest is only days away. It's my chance to earn respect and prove that this sport is for everyone, including girls. Will my speed and my maneuvers finally be taken seriously, or will I be pushed aside again?
