Sixteen Years to Life

Overview

""Sixteen Years to Life"" delves into the profound journey of Jaydah, a young girl who grapples with sorrow following her mother's imprisonment. In a family overwhelmed by grief and adversity, Jaydah is forced to grow up quickly. The narrative reveals her experience with conditional love, or at times, its complete absence. Rich with emotional depth, the story charts her transformation from a silent child to a woman who reclaims her voice through writing and self-discovery. It's a poignant exploration of a fractured family, resilience, and the quest for self-worth, offering solace and inspiration to those who have faced similar struggles. Based on true events, the story resonates deeply with anyone seeking to nurture themselves through hardship. Jaydah's experiences serve as a mirror for readers, reflecting their own journeys and underscoring the strength found in vulnerability and the enduring human spirit.

Author Information

Jamie 'Jai' Morrison, a certified Family Medicine Physician Assistant, hails from Dallas, Texas. Her fondness for reading blossomed when she discovered books like The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah and Flyy Girl by Omar Tyree. Reading became Jamie's solace during high school, a turbulent time when she and her siblings lived with different relatives. Motivated by her challenges and a deep desire to support others, Jamie penned her first book, 16 Years 2 Life, sharing her journey. After graduating from high school in 2003, she joined the Air Force and served for 13 years as a medical technician. Following that, she pursued a master's degree in Physician Assistant studies and has focused on primary care for the last 7 years of her military service. She completed her Doctorate in Medical Science in 2025. An inspiration to many, Jamie advocates for mental, physical, and spiritual health, wellness, reading, and writing. Her second book, Boots, Bibs, and Barbells, empowers women to pursue their aspirations and simplifies meal planning. Her current focus is on self-improvement, healing, and personal growth. When she's not writing, Jamie can be found in her garden, the gym, crafting soap, or enjoying valuable moments with her loved ones.
