OverviewSisters of Light is the first book of the beginning trilogy of the epic fantasy romance series Dancers of Light and Darkness. The story is set in the contemporary Southwest, and follows the journey of a young Sister of Light, Iya-Ko-Naya, and her promise-bound Brother of Light, an Outsider named Shatwa Hei. With support from her Warrior friends and Medicine-skilled relations, Iya obligingly submits to her legacy-acquired task as Keeper of the Ways. It is now her challenge to discover a way to overcome the difficulties that have plagued her maternal lineage for hundreds of generations. In assuming her Grandmother's role as Daughter of the Mountain, Iya acquires the responsibility of reawakening the children of their people, the Kah-ta'i, to the long-forgotten memories of their ancestors, otherwise known as the Ancient Ones, who once lived among the stars. It is only through the re-Awakening of their ancient memories--which include skills of warfare, and of healing, and the ability to step into Shadow--that Iya's Sisters and Brothers will be able to defeat the Darkness that has returned to plague them. The trilogy begins as Iya and her tiny Sister-cousin, Sweet-Star, are led by an ancient, sentient being to discover the skills of their own maternal legacy. Unprotected, and willfully disregarding all rules of safety, the two tiny girls obsessively pursue the ancient mysteries that are revealed to them in dreamtime. Always at risk of being confronted by the Dark Beings that threaten all sentient life on the Mountain, the two girls clandestinely search for the hidden secrets that they believe are hidden deep in the canyons of the Mountain of the Ancestors. Under the watchful tutelage of their Grandmother, the two little girls eventually rediscover their up-Mountain Paths. Both are ardently committed to becoming Sister-Healers as well as ways-protecting Warriors of Light. It is in their pursuit of that light-filled path that they find their own, personal guardian, a Brother of Light, who has returned after countless lifetimes of searching for his long-lost Sisters of Light.
