Sisters in Death

Overview

Rick Strong was the Sheriff of Rapides Parish in central Louisiana. His grandfather established a timber and sawmill company years earlier. Rick grew up learning the timber business from Gramps, who had passed on. His father now ran the company, which was a major player in the industry in Louisiana. After graduating from Louisiana Tech University, Rick married and joined the Army. He became an officer in the Special Forces. His wife died from breast cancer. Her death exacerbated his PTSD, and he was given a medical discharge. Rick buried his grief in a bottle for several years before he pulled himself out of his funk, including become a teetotaler. After experiencing combat, the timber business was not enough for him. He began to help investigate timber rustling and was highly successful. The Sheriff hired Rick as a deputy. After three years, the Sheriff retired, and Rick was elected Sheriff.Rick had worked with deputies from other parishes and grew close to a female deputy from Vernon Parish, Eve. She had been an MP in the Army and was pushed out because of PTSD. Similar to Rick, she dove into the bottle for several years before straightening her life out with the alcohol crutch. Can two people with such backgrounds create a lasting relationship?Rick and Eve experienced many adventures, including chasing down timber rustlers, night hunters, and murderers. They caught a down-one-his-luck logger who had robbed Rick's favorite café and killed the owner. The culprit died, but Rick was shot and lost a lung. A gang assaulted Rick's hospital room, and a firefight resulted. Will Rick survive?Their greatest adventure began when they began connecting various dots and suspected a serial killer was operating in south Louisiana, and perhaps all over the state.Rick and Eve were put in charge of a taskforce focusing on investigating the deaths of numerous young women. When the number of bodies kept growing, the FBI's BAU was called in to assist. Evidence was difficult to come by. But they found enough to wonder if the serial killer worked offshore in the oil industry. Did he?Would they ever have enough evidence to identify the killer?Could they catch him red-handed?If they caught him, could they get him to confess?
