Overview

Agroforestry and silvopasture are ancient yet sustainable ways of managing forestland. They increase productivity in the short, medium and long terms, compared with forestland, and have a higher level of biodiversity than farmland. This book, containing over 125 papers presented at an international conference held in Spain in April 2004, examines the productivity and quality of silvopastoral systems and outlines successful ways of managing forestry and agronomic areas. It examines the ecological benefits of silvopastoral systems and their cultural, economic, and social implications. The final section of the book evaluates these systems within a global context.
