OverviewIntensive agricultural practices contribute to the acceleration of greenhouse gas emissions through the use of insecticides, chemical fertilizers, growth stimulators and new varieties with high water and cold requirements. In response to these impacts, various soil and plant conservation farming systems have been developed to mitigate the effects of climate change. One such system is agroforestry, based on the association of trees, shrubs and livestock on the same unit of land. Agro-sylvopastoralism is a class or subgroup of this agroforestry system, and represents an effective regenerative practice based on the combination of forage species, trees and livestock. This study focuses on a silvopastoral system based on different Opuntia species, established in the Hendi-Zitoun region of southern Tunisia. The main objective is to monitor the phenological stages of these different species in order to select genotypes for fodder and those for human consumption or industrial use. A total of 45 Opuntia genotypes were studied.
