He witnessed both the last years of the Baltic Sea ferry industry's 1980s boom and the subsequent bust. Consequently, passenger-shipping and ferries in particular have become his life-long interests. Kalle is a graduate of the University of Helsinki with a Master's Degree in history. His Master's Thesis, written in 2012, deals with the attempts by Finnish shipping companies to run cruise lines on the international market in the 1960s and 1970s. Today he works as a freelance maritime journalist and photographer, contibuting to online and print publications in both Finnish and English.
