Silencing the Inner Ghosts: A Creative Outlet for Tackling Self Harm

Overview

Author VJ Cast brings 25 turbulent years of lived experience with mental illness together with creativity, humour and intentional questions to help those struggling with an often-concealed, but spreading mental health issue: non-suicidal self-injury. Silencing the Inner Ghosts features an eclectic array of exercises based on proven therapy techniques, presents users with a particular type of compassion and understanding, and nutures the exploration of creativity, mindfulness, and self-reflection. Mixed among these engaging prompts are stress-relieving colouring pages and the occasional inspirational quote. The aim of the journal is to provide a safe, private and highly personalizable place for you to deeply understand and find safer alternatives for your self-harming behaviour(s). Best of all, the psychologist-guided material allows for the journal to be easily used either as a form of affordable, self-guided therapy in private or in addition to working with other medical interventions, such as psychologists and therapists. Silencing the Inner Ghosts will help towards transforming you into an active participant inyour journey of recovery and self-discovery. Isn't it time you started the challenge of silencing your Inner Ghosts and reclaiming control over your psychological and physical well-being?

Reviews

A very useful tool for trying to control the often uncontrollable push to self-harm. A user-friendly guide to overcome difficult moments. Professor Diego de Leo Emeritus Professo of Psychiatry, Griffith University As a creative work developed by someone who's walked the path, this is a 'real and raw' tool to help people with self-harming behaviour(s) better understand where they're coming from. Silencing the inner ghosts is an engaging collection of questions, challenges and activities for self-expression and self-reflection that can help people find valuable clarity amidst the turmoil of everyday life. Every activity can be used to develop insight into troubling thoughts and emotions, but it's also easy-going enough so users can choose their own journey and take what's needed. Dr Justin Chapman Mental health researcher QIMR Berghofer, PCYC Queensland, Metro South Addictions and Mental Health

Author Information

VJ Cast is an Australian non-fiction author, colouring book creator, introvert, and co-parent of a teen on the spectrum. She has battled mental illness for more than 20 years. She enjoys playing the Mass Effect series again, tabletop role-playing games, wearing clothing with pockets, and getting messy with more creative projects than she can handle. She's a cat person. She dislikes (most) social media, having to wear makeup, taking selfies, and watching her child grow up. She resides on a tiny island off the coast of South East Queensland, Australia, which is home to an incredible variety of fauna and an excessive number of amiable insects. Her hair colours, like her medications, are subject to change.
