Silence of the Sparrows

Overview

In New America, only the privileged few can find employment after the Transition that saw the annexation of Canada and Latin America. Most people depend on sparse government benefits, but some holdouts have fled to the countryside and survived in what is known as Sustainable Agricultural Communities. After his brother goes missing, Jude Kane, a young technician from a SAC in Cascadia, sets out on a mission to find him and bring him home. Joined by his sister Maisy, an aspiring doctor, and Zara Malik, an aspiring journalist, they lend their technical and medical skills to struggling SACs along the way. Zara's reports unwittingly start a movement of hope, truth, and independence that makes them a threat to the status quo. Jude soon discovers his brother is being held by the authorities, and as the Sparrows grow in influence, his brother's fate becomes more uncertain.

""McCollum weaves an epic tale that'll make you question everything about family, society, and humanity in a world gone wrong. The story follows brothers as they search for a missing sibling amid dire circumstances. It's more than a gripping thriller. It explores the heart of what motivates and defines us. How can we hold onto humanity when everything else crumbles? This book will challenge and engage you. It will keep you up past your bedtime."" --J. Michael King, Professor of Education, University of Pikeville
