OverviewThis two-volume publication (Volume I: Text, Volume II: Bibliography, Figures and Plates) presents the results of the intensive surface sur-vey conducted between 2004 and 2009 within the confines of the urban area of Hellenistic and Roman Sikyon, by the University of Thessaly in col-laboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Corinthia, the Institute for Mediterranean Studies and the University of York, and with the participa-tion of established scholars from Greece and abroad. It is one of the larg-est and more detailed urban surveys that have been carried out in Greece. The project included archaeological, geoarchaeological and geophysical research, study of selected rescue excavations (carried out by the Ministry of Culture) and examination of Ottoman archives. Thanks to this combined research, the history of habitation of the urban plateau was traced from the Neolithic period to the 19th century, and various aspects of the economic and cultural history of the city were illuminated. In addition, and for the first time, pottery from ancient Sikyon is being published in a systematic and comprehensive way, with particular emphasis to the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
