Enlisted in the Army late in 1948 and was stationed in Japan when the Korean War began. Assigned to the recon platoon of the 89th Medium Tank Battalion. Married to Misako Yokoyama in Japan after finishing tour in Korea. After return to U.S., completed an apprenticeship in printing then attended Wabash College and Purdue University. Retired as an admissions officer at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He and his wife now reside in Gulf Breeze, Florida. They have one daughter and one grandson.
