Overview

Shifting Light is the result of several years of wandering with a camera by local photographer Paul Binnion. Capturing Bestwood throughout the seasons over a period of a couple of years the photos in this collection aim to demonstrate that we don't need to travel far from our own front door to find stunning scenery and moments of magic. Shooting locally offers the chance for a deeper relationship with the landscape as we become more attuned to the changes tthroughout the seasons. Bestwood Country Park in Nottingham has borne witness to vast changes over the centuries. Initially a royal hunting ground in the medieval era, most recently it has been one of the busiest collieries in Nottinghamshire. Since closing in 1967 the land was acquired by local and county councils and Bestwood Country Park was established. Nature is slowly reclaiming the landscape left scarred by the decades of mining. Today the park is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, nature lovers and people interested in the industrial heritage of the site. This collection celebrates the changing landscape of this beautiful woodland.
