Overview

A bookstore murder baffles and haunts the lead detective, the circumstances of the case forcing him to face suppressed demons. Theft and infidelity disrupt the smooth tranquility of a bookstore in Madison, Wisconsin. As the staff adjusts to the upheavals, they are rocked again when one of them is found dead in the store. Was it an accident? Foul play? Detective John Meyer suspects the latter and embarks on an investigation like no other in his career. Everyone's a suspect but none of them are criminals, throwing off the detective's finely tuned intuition. Recently divorced, John is increasingly unnerved by the details of the case, which closely resemble the particulars of his own marital breakup. Lisa grew up in Iowa then lived in the Madison, Wisconsin area for 26 years where she worked in journalism, at a bookstore, for the Democratic Party and for the state housing and development authority. She returned to Iowa twelve years ago and lives in Iowa City where she works for the University of Iowa. She published her first book, a memoir about getting sober, in 2022.
