OverviewShauki language is spoken by Shauka tribe in Johar, an area in Tibet border of mid Himalaya. It is a dialect of Hindi, just like kumaoni. It's original name was Rangkas which was changed to Suki khuun and ultimately to Suki and then Shauki. The dictionary is compiled by Gajendra Singh Pangti with the support of some elderly members of the community. Mr. Pangti, a Shauka himself has authored a number of books on history and culture of Shauka community.
