OverviewAdolescence is a time of transition from childhood to adulthood, During this period young people experience changes following puberty, but do not immediately assume the roles, privileges and responsibilities of adulthood. Experiences of adolescence vary by age, sex, marital status, class, region and cultural context. Moreover, social, economic and political forces are rapidly changing the ways that young people must prepare for adult life. These changes have enormous implications for adolescents' education, employment, marriage, relationships and childbearing and their sexual and reproductive health and behavior. As a group, thus, adolescents have sexual and reproductive health needs that differ from those of adults in important ways.
