She received her dual PhD in Political Science and Public Policy from the University of Michigan, USA. Her fields of specialization include international relations, conflict and security, international and domestic migration policy, gender politics, and quantitative methodology. Professor Howard has conducted extensive research across her areas of interest and is the author of Failed States and the Origins of Violence: A Comparative Analysis of State Failure as a Root Cause of Terrorism and Political Violence (2014) and The Tragedy of Failure: Evaluating State Failure and its Impact on the Spread of Refugees, Terrorism and War (2010). Other notable peer reviewed publications appear in Studies in Conflict and Terrorism, Civil Wars, and Immigrants and Minorities. Nerses Kopalyan is Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA.
