Overview

After dying in a drunk-driving accident, Darren Wright awakens in a morgue as a disembodied soul. He is met by Gabriel, an angelic guide who tells him he cannot enter heaven until he learns the compassion he failed to practice in life. To do that, Darren must help seven people whose lives intersect with grief, loss, and unanswered wounds. His first attempt - giving a widow the truth about her husband's death - shatters her instead of healing her. His second attempt, removing a veteran's fear, nearly gets the man killed. Each encounter forces Darren to confront the difference between fixing and understanding, between truth and mercy, between helping and actually healing. Through these seven lives, Darren is broken down and reshaped, learning that compassion always has a cost. At the gates of heaven, he discovers the final requirement: he cannot enter until he gives his ex-wife the closure he denied her in life. Only then can he complete his journey toward redemption.
