OverviewIn May 1989 the Catholic Church in Southern Africa launched its Pastoral Plan under the theme Community Serving Humanity. The plan emerged through a process of consultation, discussion and discernment ranging over the fifteen years following the worldwide Synod of Bishops in Rome in 1974. This book looks at the progress of the plan during its first seven years. 41 authors from different contexts and commitments, throughout the area of the Southern Africa Bishop's Conference, have brought their own experiences of initiatives in ministry inspired by the vision of the Pastoral Plan. Others provide more in-depth theological reflection on what is emerging in ministry in the Catholic Church. This work is not only written by specialists. Most are ordinary people involved in Church life in an ordinary way. A few are trained theologians. This mix tries to ensure that the book is down to earth and that it will encourage all God's people to be involved in helping to build God's reign in this part of the world.
