Overview

Northern Brandenburg is one of the regions in Germany with the highest level of poverty. Local congregations are sensitively aware of poverty and are taking it into consideration when organizing the life in communities and districts. The Uckermarck-Study of the Social Sciences Institute of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) shows the impact of poverty on private and public life which serves as an example for other structurally weak areas, too. But it also points out options for action and makes clear how engagement in view of poverty can be developed and what its obstacles are.

Susann Jenichen, Dr. phil., Jahrgang 1979, studierte Kirchenmusik und Soziologie in Dresden und wurde 2013 von der TU Dresden promoviert. Von September 2011 bis August 2014 war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin des Sozialwissenschaftlichen Instituts der EKD mit dem Arbeitsschwerpunkt 'Kirche und soziale Raume'. Zusammen mit Wolf von Nordheim fuhrte sie in dieser Zeit das Projekt 'Befahigende Kirchengemeinde - Was konnen evangelische Kirchengemeinden in der Uckermark gegen Armut tun?' durch.
