OverviewNorthern Brandenburg is one of the regions in Germany with the highest level of poverty. Local congregations are sensitively aware of poverty and are taking it into consideration when organizing the life in communities and districts. The Uckermarck-Study of the Social Sciences Institute of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) shows the impact of poverty on private and public life which serves as an example for other structurally weak areas, too. But it also points out options for action and makes clear how engagement in view of poverty can be developed and what its obstacles are.
