Sempre: Believe

Overview

The devastation of London's bombed streets during the Second World War, could not be more different from The Smithy Guest House in central Portugal at the beginning of the twenty-first century, but in this story we travel from one to the other, stepping through the crowds of New York Harbour and the sexual liberation of the 1960's and 1970's. We learn a little about the injustices perpetrated against America's First People, and how the past can sometimes be hidden, but not forgotten. When a teacher on the verge of retirement takes a break to assess her future, we are (re)introduced to the family of Jennifer and Nélson, whose troubled courtship we followed in Sempre: Finding Home. Life has been kind to the couple in the years since then, but all that is due to change; as will life for our retiring teacher. As with the first book of the series, in this story too we understand the value of friendship, family ties, and a love that lasts 'para sempre'. Although part of a series, this book can be read independently of the first novel.
