Overview

This book constitutes the first comprehensive treatment of self-focusing. Its intent is to form a bridge between research performed many years ago that gave birth to this field and more recent research aimed at issues such as soliton formation and stability, self-action effects with femtosecond pulses, and self-focusing and filamentation in the atmospheric propagation. Another objective of this book is to provide an overview of the development of this field by means of contributions from important contributors to this field, both at present and in the past. Leading scientists from the US, Russia, France, China, Canada, Israel, Italy, Lithuania will contribute chapters. The book contains approximately 25 chapters including one chapter with reprints of several important papers in the past, unknown to new generation of researchers.
