Seeing With My Ears is a children's fiction for the early readers...a story about how an unexpected friendship developed in the great outdoors, and a young blind boy teaches a valuable lesson to a boy with vision who takes no notice of the world around him. The desire of the author is that this book would be an important lesson for children that not everyone learns in the same way and also how listening, Braille literacy and sensory learning are such valuable assets to children who are just like them in every other way, the only difference being that they are blind. This story is one that shows the importance of stepping outside of your comfort zone and seeing the world as others see it. Inspired by her dear brother-in-law Eric and many cousins overcoming challenges of visual impairment, she wanted to bring this disability awareness to the attention of the younger children. It is a light read, from a child's point of view and the hope is that it will share a lesson of how visually impaired children learn and cope, and their courage in doing so. Her greatest desire is that in sharing this story with them, that as they get older it will serve as a reminder of the importance of acceptance and inclusiveness regardless of blindness or other differences. Also included in this book is a QR code and link to the author reading this story to preschoolers or those who may be visually impaired. All proceeds from this book will be donated to the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) in thanks for their marvelous support and encouragement to her family as well as that of many others.
