Overview

Sedimentology and Petroleum Geology is intended as an introduction to sedimentology as well as petroleum geology. It integrates both subjects, which are closely related but mostly treated separately. The first part covers the basic aspects of sedimentology, sedimentary geochemistry and diagenesis. Principles of stratigraphy, seismic stratigraphy and basin modelling forms the base for the last part on petroleum geology. Here subjects include the composition of kerogen and hydrocarbons, theories of migration and trapping of hydrocarbons and properties of reservoir rocks. Finally, short introductions to well logging and production geology are given. Students and geologists as well as engineers can use this book as an introductory text.
