Overview

Civilian checkpoints or security checkpoints are distinguishable from the border or frontier checkpoints in that they are erected and enforced within contiguous areas under military or paramilitary control. Civilian checkpoints have been employed within conflict-ridden areas all over the world to monitor and control the movement of people and materials to prevent violence. They have also been used by police during peacetime to help counter-terrorism. In this book, the author provides a qualitative study on the central research question that focuses on the degree to which miscommunication between TSA, airlines, and airport employees has an impact on the implementation of changes in airport security policies, particularly those regarding prohibited items that pass through security checkpoints. This behavior impacts the effective execution of airport security policies by federal law regarding carry-on baggage on commercial aircraft that is specifically known as the Internal Threat.
