OverviewSearching for Skye, an Arctic tern adventure, tells the story of Pilot and Skye, two Arctic tern babies, who are about to start their first incredible migration from the Arctic to the Antarctic. The flock is ready and it's time to go, but suddenly Skye cannot be found. Her worried parents search everywhere but she has simply disappeared. The family must leave with the flock or risk facing the long and difficult journey alone. Will they ever see their lost baby again? Follow their exciting and sometimes dangerous pole-to-pole migration to find out. As with all Gail Clarke's children's books, Searching for Skye is told in verse and is beautifully illustrated by the author. If an adult is reading the story to a child, the pictures on each page will capture the child's imagination, while if the child is reading the story, the font is large enough for young readers. Other titles by Gail Clarke that use animal migration as a basis for the story are 'Patrick's Birthday Message' and 'Cosmos the Curious Whale.' Originally from Northern Ireland, Gail trained as a teacher at Queen's University, Belfast. Following a move to Hong Kong, she then taught at the German Swiss International School for 27 years, retiring as deputy head of the international primary department. In 2004, Gail moved with her husband, David Clarke, to Tuscany, Italy. This 'migration' set her thinking about animals that cover huge distances every year. This led to her first illustrated children's book, Patrick's Birthday Message about a parrot in central Africa who wants to send a message to a relative thousands of miles away? Perhaps he could ask for help from the migrating animals. On her writing 'journey' Gail learned many amazing facts about animals which were the inspiration for her second and third books Searching for Skye and Cosmos the Curious Whale. As well as writing, illustrating and publishing her books, Gail enjoys visiting schools, talking to children, and sharing her stories with them. She now lives in both Italy and Phuket, but most years she and her husband also travel to Hong Kong, England and Kenya to see their family of four children and six grandchildren. Everywhere she goes, Gail spends time visiting schools, whether they are huge international schools with thousands of children in Hong Kong and Phuket or tiny village schools in Kenya and England. Her presentations to children are assisted by puppets of Patrick the parrot and Cosmos the whale.
