OverviewEmily Washborne, at 14, goes to live with her father and his new family. While they are away on vacation and she is visiting her mother, Emily has an emotional conversation that changes her life. Shortly thereafter, she has a nervous breakdown. After the nervous breakdown, she ends up in a psychiatrist's chair, where she finally has a place to confide her darkest secret: the sexual abuse in her past. She's prescribed medication to return back to her old self and is taken out of school for three months. During her time of recovery she manages to convince the psychiatrist she wants to return to live with her mother and he agrees. Emily experiences isolation from her stepfather and sister due to her seeking attention with bad behavior. She ends up leaving home and going to live at a residential facility for emotionally disturbed children. By 18, she's homeless, and by 24, she's pregnant and married to an abusive schizophrenic/compulsive gambler. This honest and unapologetic story continues on to fascinate readers with tales of divorce, Child Protective reports, and support groups. Eventually, there's a search for something greater, something to lift her out of her dysfunction and toward divine intervention.
