OverviewCurrent sea level rise is due significantly to global warming, which will increase sea level over the coming century and longer periods. Increasing temperatures result in sea level rise by the thermal expansion of water and through the addition of water to the oceans from the melting of continental ice sheets. Values for predicted sea level rise over the course of this century typically range from 90 to 880 mm. This book presents research data on sea level rise, coastal engineering, shorelines and tides, including the tides and topography of the Strait of Gibraltar; tidal energy use for the future and sea level variation along the Estonian coast of the Baltic Sea. Also discussed herein is the potential impacts of sea-level rise on the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts and coastal management of shorelines in Colombia, South America.
