Overview

Sea and Sardinia by D.H.Lawrence Narrated by Phil Benson At the end of World War 1, D. H. Lawrence and his wife, Frieda ('the queen bee'), exiled themselves from England and set up home in Sicily. On the spur of the moment, Lawrence proposed a short trip to Sardinia. Setting off before dawn, they embarked on a whirlwind tour, by train to Palermo, ferry to Cagliari, and by train and bus to Terranova, returning to Rome by ferry. Back in Sicily Lawrence wrote Sea and Sardinia, one of the great travel journals of the twentieth century, in six weeks and entirely from memory. Alternately enthusiastic and grumpy, but always effusive, Lawrence's journal sparkles with observations of the day-to-day detail of travel and characters encountered on the way Production Copyright 2020 Voices of Today.

Author Information

"D. H. Lawrence was born in 1885 into a poor working class family in a coal mining village in Nottinghamshire. The fourth child of a schoolmistress and little-educated miner, his working class upbringing, fraught relationship with his father and very close bond with his mother informed the semi-autobiographical Sons and Lovers. Lawrence started his career teaching, and it was Ford Madox Ford who first noticed Lawrence's talent when he saw some of his poetry in 1908. He went on to become a prolific novelist, playwright, essayist and literary critic as well as poet, and having eloped with his professor's wife Frieda, spent the majority of his life travelling with her in a sort of self-imposed exile, through places as diverse as Australia, Italy, Bavaria and Sri Lanka. His writing often met with shock and moral outrage, and thirty years after his young death at the age of forty-four, Penguin was trialled under the Obscene Publications Act for publishing the unabridged Lady Chatterley's Lover. Penguin dedicated the second edition of the book to 'the twelve jurors, three women and nine men, who returned a verdict of ""Not Guilty"" and thus made D. H. Lawrence's last novel available for the first time'. Sons and Lovers was first published in 1913. Phil Benson followed in his dad's footsteps, becoming an entrepreneur right away by starting several businesses. Having built a successful insurance agency, Phil quickly saw the power of residual income. When introduced to network marketing, he grasped the component of leverage, which makes the residual income even more powerful. Understanding that the world was his marketplace, Phil built an international business in fifteen countries, with thousands of distributors in his organization over the next twenty-five years. Realizing his natural ability to work with individuals on a personal basis, Phil got his certification in Life Empowerment Coaching and Core Energy Coaching from iPEC, one of the leading companies in the life-coaching industry. Phil has begun helping people reach their full potential by utilizing the vehicle of Energy Leadership coaching. With his book The Truth in Network Marketing, Phil has combined his expertise in both fields, network marketing and Energy Leadership coaching, to create a powerful guide that can be used to help all on their journey to success."
