Scotty and the Scotties

Overview

Nothing is as it seems in Scotty and the Scotties, a delightfully funny read-aloud picture book about a family of scottie dogs, from beloved Australian picture-book star Gabriel Evans. In Scotty's family, a scottie is a scottie, no matter what you look like. But when everyone looks the same, acts the same, and does all the same things, can you ever truly be your own scottie, too? Packed full of surprises and plenty of heart, Scotty and the Scotties isn't just an irresistible story about loyalty, love and being yourself – it's also a cheeky search-and-find. Everyone will enjoy poring over the story to find the 'real' Scotty on every page, making this an instant modern classic and a sure favourite for all families, no matter how alike or different they are.   ‘Brilliantly clever, surprising, and with a great message too… This is a book that we have read over and over again since we received it.’ –GET KIDS BOOKED Perfect for: Toddlers and pre-schoolers who love dogs and search-and-find books Fans of Jon Klassen's We Found a Hat; Oh no, George! by Chris Haughton; and David Melling's Ruffles books Gift-givers wanting an instant family favourite Parents and educators looking to explore individuality and acceptance through a light-hearted narrative Discover more brilliant books from Gabriel Evans: A Human for Kingsley A Job for Kingsley Norton and the Bear Little One (written by Jane Godwin) Blue Flower (written by Sonya Hartnett)

Reviews

‘I did not see the hilarious and delightful twist that was to come! … A gorgeous picture book that will appeal to readers of all ages. It explores the quandary of wanting to belong to a group yet also to be your own unique self. It celebrates embracing differences and similarities, acceptance and belonging. I would not be at all surprised to see this book mentioned in the CBCA 2026 Book of the Year Awards. Highly recommended.’ –CBCA READING TIME ‘What a fun picture book! Young children will relate to the theme of wanting to be different, especially if they have siblings, but will also recognise that loyalty to your family group is also important. Scotty and the Scotties is a book that reads aloud beautifully and one that is likely to become a firm favourite as children search and find the surprising plot twist.’ –READPLUS ‘A very fun, funny, cheeky, clever, sweet book with a great message and equally fun, funny, cheeky, clever and sweet illustrations.’ –REBECKA SHARPE SHELBERG ‘Brilliantly clever, surprising, and with a great message too… The illustrations turn into a search and find adventure, where children will learn about being yourself, love and loyalty in a humorous and heartwarming way. This is a book that we have read over and over again since we received it.’ –GET KIDS BOOKED
