OverviewDairy farming plays an important role in the national economy and in the socio economic development of the country. It also plays a significant role in supplementing family incomes and in the generation of gainful employment in the rural sector, particularly women, besides providing animal protein to millions of people. Furthermore, as dairy cows are mostly raised by women, especially in poor households, it is closely linked with economic empowerment and social well-being of the rural women in Puducherry region. However, a high incidence of infertility problem in dairy cows was found to be the major factor for low reproductive efficiency in postpartum dairy cows which causes great economic loss to the dairy farmers. Thus there is a compelling need to adopt technologies to improve the reproductive performance in dairy cows. Various reproductive technologies have been developed and tested successfully in organized dairy farms in developed countries and in India. Hence the research work was undertaken to study the effect of scientific breeding on reproductive efficiency in repeat breeding dairy cows.
