Overview

This publication brings together the two key parts of the framework for the England and Wales pay arrangements: the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document ('the Document'); and the statutory guidance. The Document has been prepared in anticipation of the Education (School Teachers' Pay and Conditions) Order 2009 ('the Order'). The Document relates to teachers employed by a local education authority or by the governing body of a foundation, voluntary aided or foundation special school in the provision of primary or secondary education. Local authorities and governing bodies are required to have regard to the statutory guidance and, in respect of guidance on procedural matters, a court or tribunal may take any failure to do so into account. This publication covers: commencement and interpretation of the new conditions; qualified teachers leadership group pay; unqualified teachers pay scale; additional allowances; and, conditions of employment. There have been a number of changes to the Document since the 2008 version, resulting from the School Teachers' Review Body (STRB) recommendations and discussions with the Rewards and Incentives Group.
