Originally intended to attract immigrants and long-distance travelers to the great journey on the ocean liner, the inspiring posters still include fantastic projections of giant ships' hulls and exotic port cities. From the first advertising notes of the late 19th Century through the era of Art Nouveau to the posters of the 1960's, over 200 posters are presented. Five essays explain the development of poster art through the decades, while the history of individual shipping companies, their fleet, and technical progress in shipbuilding is also represented.
