OverviewExcerpt from Scarlet Fever: Its Prevention and Control Scarlet fever is regarded, by the informed, as one of the dreaded diseases of childhood, not only because an attack may be so malig nant as to cause death in a short time, but also because of its high de gree of infectiousness, the many and grave complications with which it may be attended, and because the hope of recovery, even in cases apparently mild at the outset, has proved too often illusory. As we are as yet without Specific remedies against scarlet fever, our reliance for its mastery must lie in its prevention. This pam phlet is therefore addressed to the general public, whose intelligent cooperation is necessary in all preventive measures against diseases, in the hope that it will aid, in some small degree, in spreading that knowledge of communicable diseases which should be in the posses sion of every citizen to enable him to do his share in their prevention.
