OverviewThis book was first created as a screenplay. When a theater group in Maryland, USA expressed interest in doing it as a stage play, the author made significant revision to turn it into a play. Converting it into a book of the play meant having the space and the facility to add details that would not be possible in a stage production. Scapegoat is a suspenseful story of a crime leading to another crime. Bringing Jeff Riznak to justice would mean keeping untold numbers of children safe from his predatory behavior. But the same religious system that allowed him to perpetrate his crimes also has the effect of covering them up. In fact, the blame is shifted to an innocent person who has been investigating the crime. Sometimes it can be fraught with the kind of danger and destruction that only a powerful lightning storm can generate. In Scapegoat, author Gary Alt stands in the middle of that intersection to prove, with obvious knowledge and deep concern, that just such an intersection is ripe for a literary roller-coaster of emotions. Alt's dramatic and revelatory tale shows that a choice of faith that should and likely could be an affirmation of life, love, and hope can sometimes devolve into a much darker state of being. It is a tale that perhaps must be told. --Joel Samberg, journalist & novelist Scapegoat exposes what can happen when a religious organization is more concerned with their own reputation than the welfare of innocent little girls they should be protecting. Gary's understanding of the inner workings of a typical body of elders makes the story understandable and believable, as bizarre as it is. --Stacy De Young, author of What the Ever-Loving Hell A compelling suspense story about a subject that is of concern to anyone who cares about young people, irrespective of any belief system. --Barbara Ambruster, therapist Author InformationGary Alt is the author of four books, one stage play, short stories and screenplays.
