Overview

Sawbear goes camping and enjoys hiking, playing on the playground, climbing, sitting by a campfire, and going to a music festival. He repeatedly tries to sit in the front seat and finds that his position in the safer backseat is the only way his journey to the Blue Ridge Mountains will continue. Sawbear feels grumpy when things don't seem to be going his way. He learns that thinking about why he's feeling grumpy and talking about the reasons helps the grumpies go away. He also learns a lesson about matches after he makes a bad choice. Sawbear finds a great sign of strong love when he goes on a heart hunt.

Author Information

My name is Tracy Ryder Bradshaw. I have been a bereaved mom since my son's life was taken on October 13, 2011. He was nineteen years old, and my world seemed to stop. Three and a half years later I was given a precious gift in a stuffed bear made from a Tshirt Sawyer wore as a child and another he wore as a teenager. I named him Sawbear and began taking him on vacations and events. Camera in hand, it seemed natural and crazy at the same time to snap pictures of Sawbear. Sometimes in grief I find myself plunging into crazy and odd, but as long as no danger is in sight I proceed. Creating Sawbear books has brought sweet memories of my son, smiles, motivation, and love which has comforted my heart. I am reminded of things Sawyer said and did as a young child and the closeness we shared. He had no children, so this is how his spirit will continue into the future. It is my purpose to touch as many children and families as possible with the encouragement and understanding of a love that does not end.
