Author Information

I grew up and I started my career as a business consultant to small and medium sized businesses including safari lodges and tour operators in Zimbabwe before moving to the United States. I was inspired by community eco-tourism projects developed under the CAMPFIRE (Communal Areas Management Programme for Indigenous Resources) program. The program encouraged responsible tourism by rewarding community efforts in natural resource conservation. I like going on safaris and each time I have gone, there is always something new to discover and enjoy. My inspiration to write the book There are two main reasons I decided to write a book about African Safaris: 1. While in Business Graduate School in the USA a few years ago, I met and made friends with students from different parts of the world. A number of them were curious about visiting Africa and going on an African safari some day but had very limited knowledge about Africa at best and sometimes outright misconceptions about what they would experience if they visited Africa. I decided to write a book that would help people like my friends, people who are curious but are not sure about how it would be like to go on an African safari. 2. I believe in sustainable development, that we should enjoy our natural resources and preserve them for future generation. Going on an African safari you will see how eco-tourism as a sustainable development model is transforming whole communities in Africa, by deriving benefit from the resources, yet preserving them for future generations, as it has been for thousands of years. I hope this book will not only inspire you to go out and discover Africa, but that you will find the insights in the book helpful as you plan your safari, and also help you stay safe while on a safari.
