Santos Sisters Vol. 1

Overview

One day while combing the beach in their hometown of Las Brisas, the Santos Sisters discover a pair of beautiful medallions. What happens next changes their lives, forever. The medallions are imbued with the powers of a goddess, 'Madame Sosostris,' and can transform them at will into flying, gun-wielding, mask-wearing murder-heroes with hearts of, if not gold, then at least candy. Follow Ambar and Alana, the Santos Sisters, as they balance spicy superheroics with the drama of their everyday lives in a playful mix of Archie Comics and Love and Rockets. The Santos Sisters fight crime, date guys, and try to just deal with day-to-day life as young women in a world of deadly assassins, roided-up footballers, zombie attacks, organised crime, and more - while their creators, Greg & Fake, help restore the concept of unabashed fun in comic books with a healthy infusion of nostalgia and laughs. Collecting the first five issues of the charmingly weird and weirdly charming hit indie comic book series! Note: This book is published as a jacketed hardback; the jacket is a clear acetate printed with an image of the sisters in their superhero costumes. When removed, it shows the sisters in their every-day outfits.

Reviews

All in all, a very satisfying and consistently funny package that doesn't outstay its welcome.-- ""The Slings & Arrows"" Greg and Fake debut with a self-aware pastiche that blends an entire Saturday morning cartoon lineup into a fitfully entertaining sugar rush.-- ""Publishers Weekly"" Funny, innovative, and never the same thing twice, all while using the same characters? With every issue? ... [The] big picture stuff (the stories) is engrossing and hilarious, and once again there are enough little touches that make it feel like these comics would get even better with repeat readings.-- ""Optical Sloth"" The accumulation of details and comedic elements and relentlessness work to make this a highly entertaining comic.-- ""The Comics Journal"" A comic that dares to make superheroes wonderfully silly stuff once again. Drawn with the clean lines of an Archie comic but written if every character was hilariously vapid, Santos Sisters asks the question 'What if someone gifted the cattiest girls you know with super powers and giant laser guns?'-- ""Comics Beat"" This refreshingly irreverent, fast-paced, and often delightfully silly series is perfect for fans of superhero epics, Love and Rockets-style underground graphic novels, retro storytelling, experimental art comics, and quirky comedy.-- ""Library Journal Starred Review"" With a nod to the classic Archie Comics house style and featuring a core group of young people in varying misadventures, Santos Sisters is a charming and funny comedic series that finds a balance between wholesome and edgy.-- ""Lotusland Comics""
